Arboriculture
As part of the applicant’s commitment to sustainability and responsible development, a comprehensive arboricultural survey has been undertaken for the Milestone Farm site. This assessment followed the rigorous standards of regulation regarding design and construction, ensuring a professional and objective understanding of the site’s tree cover and green infrastructure.
The survey identifies a rich and varied mix of tree cover, including individual trees of high value, groups of trees offering collective landscape and ecological benefits, and a series of hedgerows contributing to both biodiversity and rural character. These natural features are integral to the site’s identity and provide a strong foundation for delivering a development with positive environmental outcomes.
In addition to detailed ground surveys, background checks were carried out to identify any relevant statutory designations. The site does not fall within a Conservation Area, and no Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) are currently in place (Cherwell District Council, April 2024). However, several trees on the site have been confirmed as being of notable and veteran status, recognised for their exceptional biodiversity, heritage, and cultural value due to their maturity, structure, and condition.
These trees are considered irreplaceable assets, and their presence has been a defining influence in shaping the design approach. Protecting and celebrating these natural features lies at the heart of the proposals. This development will prioritise the retention and management of all arboriculture wherever possible, alongside an overarching strategy to deliver measurable Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).
